GOVERNMENT CONTINUES TO POUR IN MORE ZUPCO BUSES

The government of Zimbabwes continued support to the Zimbabwe United Passenger Company (Ltd) has contributed the National Vision 2030 strategy of modernizing the transport system. His Excellency the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe has so far commissioned 8 batches of buses which brings the total number of white buses to more than 500.

In 2018, ZUPCO only hada total number of 100 buses operating from 7 depots, but with the governments support, the fleet expanded to 831 buses and 896 omnibuses in 30 depots in 2020. At present, the company has a total fleet of close to 3000 operating in both rural and urban centers.

The President said that the continued commissioning of buses will undoubtedly contribute to the availability of public transport services in Zimbabwe. The ZUPCO buses cater for every Zimbabwean citizen across the country as they are deployed to all the provinces.

Speaking during the last launch, the President urged ZUPCO staff to work at the highest level of efficiency in line with the country’s vision of a modern, highly integrated, multi-modal transport system, which can play a key role in the development of the country’s economic and social sectors. The governments bringing in of more buses comes as a way of ensuring that the work force does not waste valuable time waiting for transport.

The government anticipates more buses to be assembled locally, as the President mentioned investors and Zimbabwean citizens having expressed interest in doing so. ZUPCO ensures that the buses are always kept clean, as the company aims to be a beacon of excellence.
